Zabihah (ذبيحة) is the Islamic method of slaughter — a swift, hand-administered cut that severs the trachea, esophagus, and major blood vessels with a sharp blade, while the animal is alive, healthy, and facing the Qiblah. The slaughterer invokes the name of Allah at the moment of slaughter (Bismillah, Allahu Akbar). The blood is then fully drained before processing.
Many products labeled “halal” today rely on mechanical slaughter, stunning, or supplier self-declarations. Zabihah halal — sometimes called hand-slaughtered halal — adheres to the classical understanding that each animal must be slaughtered individually, by hand, by a Muslim, with intention.
Zabify lists only restaurants whose meat is independently verified as Zabihah by one of the recognised certification authorities in United States: HFSAA and HMS.
